SYNOPSIS

The strong numbers are proof that Vietnam remains as one of the key South-east Asian markets for Singapore companies big and small. As at the end of 2016, Singapore maintained its status as the  third-largest foreign investor in Vietnam—after South Korea and Japan—with registered cumulative investments of US$37.9 billion in 1,786 projects. Singapore is also the top investor among all the ASEAN member states, with the Lion City accounting for about 60 per cent of ASEAN’s total foreign direct investment into Vietnam. Overall, Singapore was Vietnam’s sixth-largest trading partner in 2015, while Vietnam ranked as Singapore’s 12th largest. Last year, bilateral trade stood at S$19.8 billion. The Memberships of WTO, ASEAN, TPP, and Vietnam-EU FTA have made and will make trade between Vietnam and the main consumer markets worldwide more effective.

The cities covered for this mission will be Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri & Quang Nam. Thua Thien Hue is a province in the key economic zone in Central Vietnam: the Eastern borders from the Eastern Sea, the Western borders Laos PDR, the Northern borders Quang Tri province, the Southern borders Quang Nam province and Da Nang city. With an area of 5.062km2 and a population of 1.3 million people of which 630,000 people are in the labour force, Thua Thien Hue province lies strategically on the East-West economic corridor, connecting the province with Lao, Thailand and Myanmar.

Quang Nam is a province in the key economic region of Central Vietnam with a total natural land area of 10,438km2 and a population of about 1.5 million people. Quang Nam as abundant natural resources and good geographical location favourable for connecting to other provinces of Vietnam and the region. The province has attracted 115 FDI projects and territories from mainly Korea, Japan, Singapore, USA, China, France, Germany and Italy etc.

Sectors with investment opportunities for Singapore businesses include: Oil & Gas industry, Manufacturing industry, Agricultural & Food Processing industry, Light industries—Textiles & Furniture, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, and Professional services (Consultancy, urban management).

  • Networking sessions with relevant government authorities, chambers of commerce, companies, factories and industrial parks and business meetings
     
  • Site visit to projects & business opportunities in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri & Quang Nam Provinces
