The Future Of Manufacturing Standard Seminar (FoMSS) was held at the Singapore Expo Convention & Exhibition Centre on 27th October 2017. It was jointly organised by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), SPRING Singapore and Singapore Manufacturing Federation - Standards Development Organisation (SMF-SDO) in conjunction with Manufacturing Solutions Expo (MSE) 2017. The FoMSS brought together subject-matter experts and business leaders to share knowledge and discuss how Smart Manufacturing, enabled by standards, can transform Singapore’s manufacturing sector.
Ms Choy Sauw Kook, Assistant Chief Executive, Quality & Excellence Group, SPRING Singapore gave the welcome address, followed by Prof Tan Sze Wee, Executive Director, Science & Engineering Research Council, Agency for Science, Technology and Research, who gave the Opening Remarks. Er Dr Michael Teng, Assistant Secretary – General, Singapore Manufacturing Federation spoke about Standards and Business Model Innovation, while Mr Shinji Oda, Japan National Committee Chairman for IEC/SMB/SEG7 on Smart Manufacturing was invited to give an overview of IEC Standards For Smart Manufacturing. Other distinguished speakers from A*STAR, ADLINK Technology Singapore, Beckhoff Automation, TRUMPF, Sunningdale Tech and Rockwell Automation shared their knowledge and provided contextualization of smart manufacturing into Singapore’s landscape and also provided insight to building a Smart Factory from MNCs and SME’s perspectives. Mr Yeoh Pit Wee, Chairman (Industry) of Smart Manufacturing Technical Committee (SMTC) focused on adoption and development of standards for Smart Manufacturing.
A call was made to all interested participants to take a pro-active role in standard adoption and implementation for Smart Manufacturing. This Seminar generated great interest among various industry sectors in Singapore as it had attracted 240 participants from 76 different companies and organisations.
