11 July 2018 - Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF)’s Medical Technology Industry Group (MedTech IG) held its first Master Roadmap exercise at SMF Building on 10 July 2018. Co-organised by Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) and SMF’s MedTech IG, the session brought together more than 70 MedTech industries experts and government agencies representatives to identify the pain points of the industry and make concrete plans for change.
One of the A*Star facilitators, who is trained in the roadmapping methodology, Mr Jeff Pan, briefed the participants on A*Star’s Operation and Technology Roadmapping scheme to prepare them for the roadmapping exercise. “A proper roadmap should identify the reason for change and the deliverables needed to drive the change.” Said Mr. Pan to the participants.
Participants broke into three breakout sessions where they critique the reason for change that were identified by A*Star and brainstormed the deliverables that will put MedTech at the position they wanted in eight years’ time. One of the deliverables identified in one of the groups was to develop a healthcare app store due to the emergence of technology that was identified as reason to change in the MedTech industry.
MedTech IG Chairman, Mr. Eugene Yoo said, “Today is only the start. What comes after will be really exciting. Because you have identified the solutions, so SMEs go ahead and work on your solutions and find your space within the roadmap.” Mediwell Enterprise’s Business Development Manager, Mr. Rey Zheng agreed that the planning of the roadmap is very useful to “gear up the companies for the future MedTech industry.” He look forward to facilitate and participate in all the initiatives that were discussed to make the initiatives into a working reality.
This is also the first roadmapping exercise that SMF’s industry groups are organising. SMF aims to have all industry groups to develop their own master roadmap. Keep a lookout for many more roadmapping exercises from SMF and check out our Facebook page for more photos.
