Secretary General Dr. Ahmad Magad was cordially invited to the India-ASEAN 2019 Summit as one of the speakers at the Plenary Session on “Deepening Trade & Investment: Overcoming Technical Barriers to Trade"
21 - 23 February 2019, our Secretary General Dr. Ahmad Magad was cordially invited to the India-ASEAN 2019 Summit as one of the speakers at the Plenary Session on “Deepening Trade & Investment: Overcoming Technical Barriers to Trade".
He spoke about how we can aim to overcome technical barriers to trade when there is no fixed goal post to aim. One is to be aware that the WTO has a TBT agreement in place, and another is through the Free Trade Agreements (FTA) between the signing countries.
He further explained the initiatives SMF has been doing to benefit the Singapore's businesses in trading overseas. Three examples are the alliances SMF has built with the overseas trade associations and chambers, the implementation of business missions and international trade exhibitions, and the ecosystem of NEST@SMF to enable Singapore and foreign startups to collaborate together closely.
