On 11 January 2021, Ms Tin Pei Ling, CEO of Business China and Member of Parliament for MacPherson constituency visited the SMF. SMF President Mr Douglas Foo warmly welcomed Ms Tin and her team of delegates from Business China as they came to understand the role of the SMF and local manufacturing sector in exploring business opportunities for regional partnerships involving China and ASEAN.

During the visit, Ms Tin emphasised the role of Business China in Singapore’s bilingual efforts at the macro level. In the context of the rapid globalisation era, Singaporeans must continue to build on their bilingual capabilities and bicultural recognition. Multilingualism and understanding of multi-cultures will serve as an advantage for Singaporeans, ensuring that they remain relevant to an increasingly competitive environment.
She also pointed out that, in order to provide more opportunities for young Singaporeans to learn about China, Business China has set up an internship fund to sponsor internship immersion in China in recent years.

Mr Foo then mentioned that SMF could help Business China cross-promote member companies to further improve business alliances and partnerships to cultivate coherent relations to further leverage business opportunities. He also revealed that the the SMF has recently set up a Shenzhen liaison office to facilitate business support services for companies between Singapore and China.
