Promoting closer Vietnam-Singapore business collaboration

Her Excellency Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, President of the National Assembly of Vietnam, led an official delegation consisting of several Ministers, Chairmen of Parliamentary Committees as well as Chairmen of several provinces in Viet Nam to visit SMF on 27 November 2017. This was attended by over 200 business participants at a Vietnam – Singapore Business dialogue. This dialogue was organised by SMF with the Vietnam Embassy to Singapore and the Ministry of Planning and Investments of Vietnam.

Singapore Minister for Trade and Industry (Trade) Lim Hng Kiang who also graced the session noted that Trade Associations and Chambers such as SMF have been working hard to help Singapore companies tap business opportunities in Vietnam, and seek partnerships with Vietnamese businesses to collaborate on projects in Vietnam.

Minister Lim said: “Looking ahead, there continues to be excellent potential for Singapore and Vietnam to further enhance economic cooperation. Vietnam is emerging as a choice manufacturing base in Asia, and Singapore companies’ strong interest in Vietnam reflects well on Vietnam’s stability and growth prospects.”

The event also saw a signing of an MOU by SMF President, Mr Douglas Foo, and His Excellency Huynh Duc Tho, Chairman of the Danang People’s Committee to facilitate Singapore companies to expand their business in Danang. Danang which was the location of the recent APEC Summit hosted by Vietnam, offers a strategic location and good resources to Singapore companies in several industries. The MOU signing was witnessed by Her Excellency Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Minister Lim Hng Kiang.

“There are many synergies for enterprises, especially the SMEs in Vietnam and Singapore to partner together and collaborate to work together in the areas of digital, e-commerce, manufacturing, training, education and other industries and SMF will continue in our efforts to create platforms to enable companies in our two countries to come together,” said Mr Foo.
