Mr Foo took the opportunity to update members of the key undertaking of the Federation over the past year and further urged members to avail their companies to the services provided by the SMF especially in digitalisation and the move towards Industry 4.0.
Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 20 September 2019.
The meeting opened with an address by the SMF Secretary-General Dr Ahmad Magad, who then invited the SMF President Mr Douglas Foo to chair the meeting and address the members in attendance. Mr Foo took the opportunity to update members of the key undertaking of the Federation over the past year and further urged members to avail their companies to the services provided by the SMF especially in digitalisation and the move towards Industry 4.0. He noted, "As with the government's push for our companies to go into Industry 4.0, the SMF is here to help with business model remodelling, helping businesses to digitise and digitalise, and, leveraging on our extensive global networks to give our member companies a leg up in this competitive world. I urge our members here not to be held back by the perceived high costs of going digital. Speak to our Assistant Secretary-General Dr Michael Teng and his team and I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what the actual costs may be, thanks to the support of the government agencies in encouraging our businesses to advance."
Another key item on the agenda was for members to consider the resolution to adopt the amendments to the Constitution proposed by the Council. The new constitution was circulated to members prior to the AGM, key changes include:
- Updates to "Definitions" - Manufacturing and Manufacturing Services.
- Re-structured the Constitution according to the bodies and committees of the Federation.
- Provided for continuity in the Council - extension of terms for Council members, office bearers and IG chairs to 3 year terms.
All resolutions were passed unanimously by the members in attendance.
As the meeting wound to a close, the SMF took the opportunity to celebrate the 87th birthday of the federation. We would like to thank Polar Puffs & Cakes a member of the SMF for their kind sponsorship of the cake.
