Triple Celebrations at SMF Awards 2018
It was a triple celebration for Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) during its SMF Awards Ceremony on 26 September 2018. Held at Resort World Sentosa, SMF celebrated the success of the companies that won the SMF Awards, its ripe old age of 86 years young, and SMF President, Mr. Douglas Foo’s appointment as a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP).
27 September 2018 – It was a triple celebration for Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) during its SMF Awards Ceremony on 26 September 2018. Held at Resort World Sentosa, SMF celebrated the success of the companies that won the SMF Awards, its ripe old age of 86 years young, and SMF President, Mr. Douglas Foo’s appointment as a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP).
It was a glitzy affair as 900 guests from embassies, government agencies, and business communities came together to witness the success of the Award winners and celebrate SMF’s growth through these 86 years. “SMF has come a long way and has a very rich history of championing Singapore’s manufacturing sector, since its inception in 1932. Over the past 86 years, you (SMF) have worked tirelessly to help Singapore companies innovate, increase productivity, transform and expand overseas.” Remarked Mr. Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Finance of Singapore, who was the Guest-of-Honour for the night.
Minister for Finance, Mr. Heng Swee Keat, delivered his keynote address during the SMF Awards ceremony. Mr. Heng was the Guest-of-Honour for the event.
The SMF Awards saw a total of 17 companies awarded for their innovative, collaborative, and sustainable efforts. Out of these 17 companies, two companies won two awards collectively, making a total of 19 winners in the categories of SMF Business Model Innovation Award, SMF Collaborative Partnership Award, and SMF Sustainable Growth Award.
Recognising the importance of collaborating in the ASEAN region, a new sub-category was introduced – the SMF-RHB Collaborative Partnership Award (ASEAN), to honour the industry leaders that have benefitted from their close collaborations with ASEAN partners.
The SMF Awards honoured and recognised these 17 companies for their success in their innovative, collaborative and sustainable efforts.
SMF President, Mr. Douglas Foo said, “The SMF Awards aim to encourage companies to grow, think out of the box and venture on the exciting journey of innovation to keep ahead of competition. In today’s volatile and disruptive market condition, companies must be open to change and innovate in order to thrive and soar through challenges. The winners today have shown exemplary leadership and business acumen that other companies can take a leaf from.”
SMF President, Mr. Douglas Foo gave his opening address to the 900 guests during the SMF Awards ceremony.
Having received the Instrument of Appointment from Singapore President, Madam Halimah Yacob earlier in the day, SMF surprised Mr. Foo with a cake cutting ceremony to celebrate his appointment as NMP – an NMP that will champion the manufacturing sector and build closer relations with ASEAN.
To celebrate Mr. Foo's appointment as NMP, SMF surprised him with a cake cutting ceremony on stage. Mr. Heng and Mr Sam Tan (Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Social and Family Development, left of Mr. Heng) joined Mr. Foo in the cake cutting.
